About Local Government Elections
Councils are part of the democratic framework of Australia. The community elects their Council Members every four years and the next general election happens in 2018. With nearly 360,000 people voting in 2014 state wide, Council elections are the biggest single voluntary civic participation activity in the State. Under the Local Government (Elections) Act, the Electoral Commissioner of SA (ECSA) is the returning officer for all Council elections. Find ECSA information here:
The Council area is divided into four wards, with three Councillors representing each ward. Ward boundaries are reviewed periodically or when the number of electors per ward varies by more than 20% from other wards.

These Guidelines operate to provide a general approval to authorise the placement or affixation of moveable signs, advertising candidates for election, on a road or onto infrastructure on a road.
A moveable sign may be placed on a road at any time without the permission of the council provided that it complies with the council’s by-laws (section 226(1) of the Local Government Act).
Signs such as corflutes that are advertising candidates for election and which do not comply with council’s by-laws, may be placed on a road without the Council’s permission provided that: the sign is related to a State or Commonwealth election and is displayed during the period commencing at 5pm on 16 February 2018 and ending at the close of polls on polling day.
